Immigration to the United States of America

Major part of the History of America has noticed immigration as the prime source of population growth. Since the liberation of immigration in the USA, the number of immigrants has consistently increased over the years. The direct impact of the immigration is on the changes of economic, social, ethnicity, settlement patterns, social mobility, crime, voting behaviour… In the recent years, United States of America is accepting more legal immigrants as permanent residents than all the other nations in the world. Till the year 2008, the leading emigrating countries to the USA were Mexico, India, the Philippines and China. While an arrival of new residents to America from different cultures a challenging atmosphere is created to the administration of the country. The then President Bill Clinton in 1998 said that “the United States has always been energized by its immigrant populations”.

Not to be ignored, family reunification accounts for approximately two-thirds of legal immigration to the US every year. The population of America is diversified with different cultures, lifestyles and food habits not just by Immigrants but also by non immigrants who will stay in the country for a specific period of time. Most of the immigrants tend to settle predominantly in the states like California, New York, Florida, Texas, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Illinois. The immigrants who stay in the USA to become the permanent residents comprise approximately up to 40% of the overall population. Being a economically prosperous nation, America attracts job seekers, businessman and students from all over the globe. Once they start to live in the USA, the tendency to settle or to become permanent residents will be more among the visitors. But immigrants and non immigrants hold a different legal status while in the USA. Visitors can only stay for a certain period of time and should return back to their home country.

Immigrants in the USA who have to reside for a certain number of years to get covered under domestic health insurance should always be aware of the expensive health care system. US immigrant medical insurance plans designed by private insurers will serve the immigrants for health insurance coverage till they become permanent residents. Once the immigrants are declared as permanent residents then they can buy domestic health insurance plans of America. Most of the immigrants tend to ignore these subtleties assuming that they are healthy and do not need any insurance. Once the disaster strikes, there is no point in buying insurance because all insurers consider it as a pre existing medical condition and the plan purchased will be ineffective. To avoid such scenarios, immigrants should purchase American Immigrant insurance before leaving their home country.
